A pretrained model refers to a machine learning model that has undergone training on a separate dataset beforehand. Much of what it learns can be widely applied to images in other datasets—for instance, detecting lines, corners, and color patterns. By pre-training on a large-scale dataset such as COCO, it is possible to reduce the number of custom images required to achieve satisfactory results.
